ESCWA Workshop in Mauritania on: The Legal Framework and Suggested Structure of the National Technology Transfer Office

In the context of establishing a national technology transfer office in Mauritania, ESCWA conducted, in partnership with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) in Mauritania, a workshop to discuss the NTTO legal framework and suggested structure on 20th December 2016.
Represented by Dr. Haidar Fraihat, Director of Technology for Development Division (TDD), and Dr. Nawar Al-Awa, Regional Advisor of TDD, ESCWA delivered a number of presentations in addition to moderating some workshop sessions.
The workshop was inaugurated by H.E. the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) Dr. Sidi Ould Salem, in presence of the President of University of Nouakchott Al-Aasryia (UNA) Prof. Ahmedou Haouba, and the Director of Planning, Information, and Documentation center at ISESCO Mrs. Wafaa Alami, as well as ESCWA delegation.
The workshop was attended by 30 participants from ministries, universities, research centers, business and industry, and other stakeholders related to innovation and technology transfer.
During workshop sessions, the legal framework of the planned NTTO is discussed, in addition to its suggested structure, operations and services.
At the closing session, participants recommended the creation of this office in accordance with the suggested centralized or distributed models, and its inclusion among the high priorities of MOHESR work plan in 2017.
Workshop participants expressed their appreciation for the workshop content through its sessions and discussions, and expressed the need to request more ESCWA advisory services, in coordination with national partners, in technology for development area.
